COVID-19
Community Care Package
The COVID-19 pandemic is increasing food insecurity in underserved communities affecting senior, homeless, and other vulnerable populations.
Most families in villages surrounding the Murchison Falls National Park survive on subsistence farming in their backyards, and earn their living by running small vegetable kiosks, teaching and working as casual laborers in larger farms, while others have been relying on tourism for income which has been severely impacted by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
National lockdowns have been very beneficial in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in Uganda, but what happens when you lock down a country in which most rural people live from hand to mouth and are completely dependent on daily earnings?
As a response to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 pandemic on our immediate community, Murchison Backpackers staff appeal to you our guests and stakeholders to join us in showing compassion to those in need during these trying times. We refuse to stand aside and do nothing, so here we are appealing to you to join our COVID Community Care Package drive to support deserving families each month until they can get back on their feet. We know that COVID-19 is impacting many aspects of your lives too, and greatly appreciate any contribution you will make towards this end. From volunteering, to donating items or money, we pledge to deliver and document accordingly.
Your donation will be used to purchase food packs such as rice, corn flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, soap, toys and basic medicines for more than 200 families in surrounding villages near Murchison Falls National Park in Western Uganda. We thank you in advance!
